Our Story
For The City was born out of a friendship, a shared calling, and a simple belief: when the local church works together, lives are transformed.
In 2012, Pastor Mark DeVaney met Pastor Miguel Rojas while serving on a short-term mission trip to Costa Rica. What began as a ministry partnership quickly grew into a lifelong friendship and a shared vision to reach communities with the hope of Jesus Christ.
In 2014, Cornerstone Church—where Mark serves as Senior Pastor—officially partnered with Miguel's church, Iglesia De La Ciudad, to support ministry efforts in Costa Rica. As teams continued to serve together, God began revealing a much bigger vision.
Rather than simply hosting mission trips, they dreamed of building a ministry that would strengthen local churches, serve families, develop leaders, and create lasting transformation in communities throughout Costa Rica.
That vision became reality in 2019 with the launch of For The City.
Today, For The City exists to connect churches and people from around the world with the work God is doing in Costa Rica. Through mission teams, the Dream Center, community outreach, leadership development, and strategic partnerships with local churches, we are committed to bringing hope, serving families, and sharing the love of Jesus in practical ways every day.
We believe mission trips are more than a one-week experience—they are the beginning of lifelong relationships and Kingdom partnerships. God uses ordinary people to accomplish extraordinary things, and every person who serves, gives, prays, or partners with For The City becomes part of a story that continues long after the trip is over.
Together, we are helping write a future filled with hope for children, families, churches, and communities across Costa Rica.
